Revisiting the Historical Amnesia

One of the worst forms of atrocities committed in history was far more grotesque than the world wars. It was colonisation. If one could summarise the process of colonisation and imperialism in a couple of words, then one would not need more than the words loot and plunder.

One could only laugh at the moronic nature of the ad hominem fallacy that drives people to believe that they are more “civilised” than another population. However, it cannot be dismissed as sheer stupidity if one sees the genocidal nature of such colonisation and mass massacre committed with the veneer of bringing civilisation to other landmasses. Well, the fact is that tribal populations exhibit a higher cultural value and affinity with nature than the supposedly civilised populations that daydream of their greatness, yet do not possess any semblance of multilingualism, ecological knowledge, seasonal festivals, and empathy with other beings.

While most of these can be explained simply in an anthropological manner to be inherently defective thinking that harms humanity as a whole, some of the insidious aspects can’t be ignored. The British Empire committed multiple genocides all across the world and took pride in their gory endeavours. Moreover, a lot of wealth was plundered from Asia and Africa for the benefit of a select few habitants of the Earth.

What is surprising is that many who are indirect beneficiaries of this looted wealth have not been made aware of these historical facts. This amnesia needs to be treated since it does no one good to self-destruct due to the decisions of the primates that pride themselves based on their birthplace geography and physical features. More about the history can be read in the famous book by William Dalrymple, The Anarchy: The Relentless Rise of the East India Company.

Well, there is a famous saying, “When small men have huge shadows, it means the Sun is about to set.” The declining populations and the fall of such economies is imminent and predictable. Arrogance and vanity lead to self-destruction.
